BJE administers two types of summer camp scholarships: day camp and overnight camp.
What day camps qualify for scholarships?
The seven camps currently eligible to participate are beneficiary agencies of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin, and Sonoma Counties:
How can I obtain a Jewish day camp application?
Email the day camp administrator for information and a BJE PDF application. User friendly PDF can be filled out on your computer and emailed back to day camp:

Who qualifies for a scholarship?
Children ages 3-15, who will receive financial assistance from the day camp.
Are there residency criteria?
Yes. Children whose parents' permanent residence is in the San Francisco Jewish Community Federation area of San Francisco, the Peninsula (Sunnyvale and North), Marin and
Sonoma Counties are welcome to apply.
What costs are covered?
Tuition and camp care, before and after the day session.
Please note: camp-provided bus transportation is not covered, unless included in part of camp cost.
When is the application deadline?
Application must be submitted by no later than April 1, 2009 or check the local day camp you will attend.
How do you decide who gets a scholarship?
The Jewish Community Federation Day Camp Scholarship Committee of the Jewish Community Endowment Fund and the Bureau of Jewish Education make the final decision based on pre-established selection criteria.
When will I know whether my child has received a scholarship?
You will be notified by the end of May.
Can I apply for a scholarship for multiple camp sessions?
Yes, you can apply for multiple sessions.
Please submit only one application per camper.
How will I be notified about the scholarship?
Both you and the camp will be notified by mail.
What makes the Jewish day camp application complete?
- Completed BJE PDF application plus
- A signed copy of the 2008 federal tax return with all schedules & W2's exactly as filed with the IRS, mailed to day camp.
- If you do not file a tax return, submit all official documents from: Cal works, Food stamps, Social security, Workman's comp, VA benefits, loans and other income for 2008.

Your day camp will select which applications should be forwarded to the Bureau of Jewish Education for scholarship committee review.

Any Jewish camp in the United States, Canada or Israel.

Are there residency criteria?
Yes. Both applicant and family must permanently reside within the S.F. Jewish Community Federation geographic service area: San Francisco, the Peninsula (Sunnyvale and north), Marin and Sonoma Counties.
Additionally, families with a permanent residence in the Greater East Bay Jewish Community Federation and the Silicon Valley Jewish Community Federation areas are eligible for funding through the Jim Joseph Foundation Education Emergency Grant. Applicants residing in Silicon Valley can apply online here

When is the Jewish overnight application deadline?
Deadline extended to April 15, 2009. By this date, you must have completed both the on-line Family and Jewish Overnight Camp program applications and have submitted your 2008 federal tax return by mail.
Can I apply for a scholarship for multiple camp sessions?
Yes, up to two sessions. Please submit only one application per camper.
