Frequently Asked Questions How can my child get a scholarship to attend a Jewish day school?
The gateway to all community-funded financial aid is through your day school's financial aid department.
Are community funds available?
Yes. Community funds are available through the Jewish Community Federation Day School Scholarship Fund (JCFDSSF), with the generous support of the Education Emergency Grant from the Jim Joseph Foundation.
However, you may only apply through your school.
Which schools qualify for the JCFDSSF program in the upcoming academic year 2010/2011?
Brandeis Hillel Day School - both the Marin and San Francisco campuses; Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School; Jewish Community High School of the Bay; Kehillah Jewish High School; Lisa Kampner Hebrew Academy High School; Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School. Additionally, these schools are now eligible for funds provided through the Jim Joseph Foundation Education Emergency Grant- Contra Costa Jewish Day School, Oakland Hebrew Day School, Tehiyah Day School, and Yavneh Day School.
Are there residency criteria?
Yes. Children whose parents' permanent residence is in the San Francisco Jewish Community Federation area of San Francisco, the Peninsula (Sunnyvale and North), Marin and Sonoma Counties are welcome to apply. Additionally, children whose parents' permanent residence is in the Greater East Bay Jewish Community Federation area and the Silicon Valley Jewish Community Federation area are welcome to apply for funds provided through the Jim Joseph Foundation Education Emergency Grant.
Which Jewish day schools qualify to receive community funds?
Jewish Day Schools must submit documentation on an annual basis to qualify for participation in the Jewish Community Federation Day School Scholarship Fund. Individual schools will be notified by the end of November if they may submit applications for scholarships the subsequent school year.
How does the JCFDSSF complement existing financial assistance provided by individual schools?
The Fund serves as a last resort resource for families whose needs are dire and for whom additional funds would enable enrollment or continuation at a Jewish day school. To be considered for community funding, the family must apply directly to the eligible school.
