Description: Congregation B'nai Tikvah, an innovative, community-minded 325 member Reform synagogue in Walnut Creek, seeks a dynamic and experienced Religious School Director to oversee our 150 students ranging from Pre-K to 7th grade.
Requirements: The qualified candidate should have a goal of sharing his/her love of Jewish learning by creating a stimulating and enriching environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required; administrative, organizational and budgetary skills essential. Degree in Jewish education preferred. Responsibilities for this position include maintaining and developing the direction of the B'nai Tikvah Religious School programs, curriculum and family education. Additionally, recruiting, developing and managing a faculty team as well as interacting with clergy, parents, students, and office staff. Prorated throughout the year, this is considered a 3/4 time position. Competitive salary.

Posted: March 2010 Diller Teen Fellows Program Coordinator Position Available

Description: The Bureau of Jewish Education (BJE) seeks an experienced Jewish teen educator to provide leadership and coordination for the Diller Teen Fellows Program for the next cohort of Diller Teen Fellows, to be selected this spring for the 2010-2011 school year.

The Diller Teen Coordinator's role is to inspire and empower 20 Jewish teens in partnership with their Israeli and North American peers to strengthen their Jewish identity and to be active and effective in addressing issues in their local and global communities.

Requirements:

Primary responsibilities for this position include:

  • manage the marketing, recruitment, interviewing and selection process of 20 participants
  • provide mentorship and guidance to the program participants and Jr. Counselors
  • develop and lead regularly scheduled workshops and retreats throughout the year
  • design, co-lead and supervise, in partnership with their Israeli counterpart, seminars in San Francisco and in Israel
Qualifications include:
  • Knowledge and experience guiding and facilitating Jewish teens in informal educational settings, including retreats and travel
  • Experience in developing and providing programming in Israel Education, Jewish identity-building and youth leadership development
  • Deep understanding of Israeli culture; extensive experience living in or multiple visits to or long-term stay in Israel; understanding of Israeli geography, history and politics
  • Basic familiarity with Hebrew language
  • Availability to work nights and weekends monthly, including travel to Israel for 3 weeks over the summer and travel 1 week in the fall for International Diller Professional Development Conference
  • BA in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Community Studies, or related degree

Position Start Date: May 1, 2010, part-time. Position will transition to full-time by July 1, 2010.
