The Bureau of Jewish Education (BJE) serves 10,000 students, 800 educators, 55 schools, and thousands of families.

BJE creates meaningful learning experiences for Jews of all ages, helps educators teach better, connects students with Israel, and enables learning for children with disabilities and families in need.
FOR EDUCATORS

  • Professional Development - BJE's nationally-recognized "teachers of teachers" lead Bay Area educators in continuing education seminars, workshops, and fellowships
  • Educator Communities of Practice - BJE is the convener for educator peer groups across the Bay Area's Jewish educational spectrum. We facilitate collaborative networks among:
      Synagogue School Principals
      Day School Heads
      Pre-School Directors
      Jewish Teen Educators
      Israel Educators
  • The Battat and Peninsula Learning Resource Centers - materials, technology, and training for teachers developing innovative multi-media curricula
  • Consultations - Educational experts provide coaching and consulting for early childhood, special needs, family education, and supplemental school educators

FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
  • Focus on Excellence - a quality assessment program raising the standards for our Jewish pre-schools

FOR DAY SCHOOLS
  • BASIS - multi-year, multi-million dollar program to re-invent Israel education in Jewish day schools

FOR SYNAGOGUE SCHOOLS
  • NESS - a three-year Intensive synagogue school improvement program - working with 5 congregations
  • School Enhancement Program - Grants and consultations for synagogue school improvement

FOR TEENS
FOR FAMILIES IN NEED
  • Financial Aid - BJE connects students and families with over $1 million in scholarships annually, seeking to make day schools, camps, Israel travel and higher education affordable for anyone and everyone
  • Special Needs Initiative - linking families, educators and communities with awareness, resources and support for living and learning with special needs
  • Special Needs Family Camp Weekend - an annual program (the first of its kind) creating a learning community for Jewish families of children with severe disabilities

FOR ADULTS
ISRAEL EDUCATION
  • Israel Education Initiative - creatively connecting students, families, schools, and JCCs with Israel
